Le documentaire relate le prodigieux parcours de l’ingénieur civil americano-suisse Othmar H. Ammann (1879-1965) qui a émigré aux États-Unis en 1904 et a redéfini l’art de la construction de ponts en Amérique. Marquées par l’accélération constante et dynamique de l’Amérique du XXe siècle, sa vie, sa carrière et ses constructions demeurent encore aujourd’hui époustouflantes.

In celebration of the 90th anniversary of the inauguration and opening of the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson River, FIFA and the Consulate General of Switzerland in Montreal are pleased to invite you to a free online viewing of Gateways to New York, directed by Martin Witz. The film will be available on ARTS.FILM on October 24th and October 25th 2021.

The documentary recounts the prodigious journey of Swiss-American civil engineer Othmar H. Ammann (1879-1965) who emigrated to the United States in 1904 and redefined the art of bridge building in America. Marked by the constant and dynamic acceleration of 20th century America, his life, career, and constructions remain breathtaking to this day.
