Should Construction and Urban Projects in Developing Countries Adopt Green Building Certifications (LEED, BREEAM, others) Created in Developed and Industrialized Nations?

This debate revolves around an assertion that is defended by Mr. Jared O. Blum (the “proposer”) and rebutted by Dr. David Wachsmuth (the “opposition”). The debate is moderated by Gonzalo Lizarralde, a professor in the School of architecture of Université de Montréal.

Mr. Blum is the Chair of the Environmental and Energy Study Institute’s Board of Directors (US) and Dr. Wachsmuth is the Canada Research Chair in Urban Governance at McGill University. Each panellist will try to persuade you with convincing arguments.

After the debate, a jury of experts will award three student prizes (1000 CAD$, 500 CAD$, and 300 CAD$) to the three best contributions written on the blog. These contributions can take the form of short texts that support one side or the other of the debate, provide examples, or challenge concepts at any one of the steps of the debate:

  • Pre-debate voting: Jan. 8 to 15
  • Opening remarks: Jan. 15 to 17
  • Rebuttal remarks: Jan. 18 to 21
  • Closing remarks and final votes: Jan. 22
