UBC’s School of Architecture + Landscape Architecture now accepting nominations for $50,000 design award

Vancouver – February 24, 2022. The School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Margolese Design for Living Prize. The $50,000 prize honours a Canadian designer whose work uplifts people, places and communities.

According to SALA director Ron Kellett, “We are proud to host the Margolese Design for Living Prize, which extends SALA’s ambition to inspire the next generation of designers to positively shape the future through their work.”

Qualified candidates must be Canadian citizens and early to mid-career professionals whose design practice and advocacy demonstrates wide environmental and social impact across a diversity of design disciplines including architecture, landscape architecture and urban design. Nominations are open until April 10, 2022. Candidates may self-nominate or be nominated by others. Nominations will be evaluated by a peer jury. A shortlist will be notified at the end of April, and a winner will be announced in September 2022. An event to celebrate the winner and award the $50,000 prize will be held in October 2022.

The Margolese Prize was established ten years ago through an estate gift to UBC by the late Leonard Herbert Margolese. In 2021, the award was granted to ecological designer Nina-Marie Lister, whose transdisciplinary research and practice involves.”
