Press release from Twenty + Change :

Twenty + Change is a non-profit organization established to encourage the exchange of ideas, and to expose and disseminate the work of a new generation of Canadian architectural practices.

The sixth iteration of Twenty + Change, in collaboration with Canadian Architect magazine, will feature emerging Canadian architects who are pushing boundaries: by engaging the public realm in meaningful ways, investigating new ideas regarding typology, program or site, innovating in sustainability or material affect, or engaging in new models of practice. Twenty + Change: New Perspectives will feature practices that are setting a new agenda for innovation and excellence through their built or speculative work.

Call for Emerging Practices – Submissions now open

Canadian architecture practices are invited to submit projects for consideration for inclusion in the Twenty + Change: New Perspectives October 2024 issue of Canadian Architect magazine. Projects of all types, either theoretical or built, are welcome. A jury comprised of practitioners and academics will be led by Heather Dubbeldam (Director, Twenty + Change and Principal, Dubbeldam Architecture + Design) and Elsa Lam (Editor, Canadian Architect magazine). Additional jury members will be announced shortly.

Timelines

  • Questions Deadline: May 9, 2024
  • Early Bird Rate Submission ($75): May 16, 2024
  • Final Deadline for Submission ($100): May 30, 2024
  • Notification of Selected firms by June 30, 2024

Eligibility

  • Projects must be submitted by Canadian practices, currently based and operating in Canada.
  • Practices must have been established within the last 10 years (ie. 2014 or later).
  • Entries should be the work of architects and designers whose emerging practices are their main focus, rather than work done while in the full-time employment of another firm or organization.
  • Entrants must have completed at least one built project under their name, regardless of scale, or have a project currently under construction. No student work will be considered.
  • Practitioner-academics are welcome to apply, but we ask that they focus their submission on their own design work (rather than coursework completed by students).
  • Projects submitted may be of any scale, new construction, or renovation, and built or unbuilt. There is no restriction on where submitted projects (speculative or built) are located.
  • Entrants must be willing to allow all materials submitted to be published by Canadian Architect Magazine and Twenty + Change, as well as accept all other submission requirements. All materials submitted must be original content and have appropriate license to use.
  • Please Note: Practices or individuals who have been featured in any previous version of Twenty + Change or in Canadian Architect’s Emerging Talent special issues (July 2016, July 2017 and August 2021) will not be considered.

The entry fee is $100.  However, our aim is to make this competition financially accessible to all. Firms who are facing financial barriers to entry may contact the organizers at info@twentyandchange.org for assistance.”
