26 octobre 2016
Announcement :
“Come celebrate the glory and splendour of Shanghai as we experienced it at the World Congress on Art Deco in Shanghai November 2015.
Join Art Déco Montréal for a visually exciting presentation by Ian Ferguson a former Canadian diplomat, who holds a M.A. in Art History. He attended the World Congress on Art Deco in Shanghai. His presentation explores why Shanghai counts among the largest number of Art Deco buildings in the world and looks at examples of hotels, department stores, cinemas, private residences, and public buildings.
His talk will situate Art Deco within the growing Chinese interest in the Art Deco period in Western concepts of luxury, nightlife, cinema, graphic art, fashion and furniture.
Now part of China’s heritage, Shanghai’s Art Deco architecture also asserts itself in the overall history of modern architecture while paying tribute to the Chinese and foreign architects and workers involved.
