États d’urgence: Une histoire spatiale du continuum colonial français

Léopold Lambert. PMN Éditions, 2025

States of emergency : A spatial history of the French Colonial Continuum

Columbia Books on Architecture and the City press, 2026

Degree zero in architecture: Form, value, authorship

Lyna Bourouiba, Wouter Van Acker, Spector Books, 2026

Originally borrowed from literary studies, the term “degree zero” has evolved, since the 1960s, into a familiar trope in architectural theory and criticism. First conceptualized in Roland Barthes’s seminal book, Le degré zéro de l’écriture, it has been deployed as a discursive and conceptual tool for articulating diverse architectural practices—projectual, theoretical, speculative, critical, or academic. This edited volume examines how the idea of degree zero, entangling the notions of form, value, and authorship, has catalyzed—and continues to deepen— critical reflections on architectural practices and their formalizations.

Black Architect

Sekou Cooke. Park Books, 2026

Black Architect is a personal investigation into the intersection of race, identity, and the built environment. Written by architect and educator Sekou Cooke, author of Hip-Hop Architecture, this book blends memoir, cultural critique, and a series of candid conversations with leading Black practitioners to explore what it truly means to be a Black architect in America. The book charts the historical marginalization of Black voices in architecture, the structural and cultural obstacles they face, and the alternative visions they bring to the discipline. It offers both a critical reckoning with architecture’s exclusionary past and a hopeful blueprint for a more inclusive future. Most importantly, it highlights why the subject matters to everyone, including those who are neither Black nor architects.

Manuel de résistance culturelle en 7 leçons

Alexis Nouss.

Participation for Real

Hülya Ertas. Flanders Architecture Institute, 2026

Since the 1970s participation has been part of urban and architectural discourse in various ways and varying emphasis. Building on this history, Participation for Real questions the practices of participatory design today and the roles architects and planners play while facing certain challenges. The book outlines the challenges and joys of participatory processes in architecture and urbanism in the 2020s in Brussels and Flanders. It is a collective diary, composed of confessions from the field.

Intuition

Buckminster Fuller, David Zwirner Books, 2026

Drawing on decades of experience as a systems thinker, Fuller looks to ancient Greek metaphysical thought, physics, and history to demonstrate how intuitive insight allows us to grasp complex, interconnected realities. In embracing the a priori mystery of the universe, human intuition has led to discoveries that have determined the past and present, and will guide the “physical and metaphysical success of all humanity.” Written in 1968, Intuition is both a meditation and a call to action, inviting readers to trust deeper patterns of understanding while remaining rigorously engaged with reason »
