Competition – Architizer – "Redesign New York's Worst Bathroom"

Architizer Launches Competition to Redesign New York’s Worst Bathroom
Kenny Lao to receive bathroom makeover from winner

NEW YORK, NY – 9 December 2010 – Today Architizer  launches a design challenge to find an architect who can make over New York’s worst bathroom.  The client, Rickshaw Dumplings founder Kenny Lao, lives in the East Village in Manhattan, where his typically tiny New York City bathroom has been described as something out of the film Trainspotting.

The competition is open to submissions through January 23 and will award the winning entrant a $5,000 design fee in addition to having their design built in Spring 2011.   Two runners-up will receive $1000 each.

The jury includes Marc Tsurumaki (partner, LTL Architects), Bennett Friedman (Principal and Creative Director of AFNY), Elena Frampton (co-founder, Curated) and Marc Kushner, AIA (co-founder, Architizer), with the input of owner Kenny Lao.

Organized with the help of AF New York, the challenge is co-sponsored by Brizo with the support of Duravit.  Blue Water Construction and Restoration will be handling the build-out, which is expected to be completed in April 2011. Remodelista and Architizer will be documenting the process, including video,  from competition and construction through ICFF 2011.”
