Call for interest – International Design Alliance (IDA) – 2013 Congress

“Montreal (Canada) – The International Design Alliance (IDA) has opened the call for interest for the second biennial IDA Congress to be held in 2013. The congress will be a platform to unite the diversity of voices in the international design community under the IDA banner. Full details, including the conditions governing the organisation of the congress, can be found on all three partners websites: icsid.org, icograda.org, ifiworld.org. The deadline for proposal submissions is 12 February 2010.

The IDA is a strategic venture between the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) and the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI). It exists to bring the benefits of design to world bodies, governments, business and society. The congress is the optimum environment in which to advance the aims of the alliance in a themed framework and to reach a truly global audience.

The three partners have held joint congresses in the following cities: Helsinki (1981), Amsterdam (1987), Glasgow (1993), Sydney (1999), and in Copenhagen (2005). The inaugural IDA Congress will be held in Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) in 2011 and aims to set a new standard for international design collaboration events. Striving to evolve beyond the current congress model that has served the individual partner organisations for 50 years, the IDA Congress aspires to be a gathering that addresses broad, relevant content, while also providing discipline-specific material and debate.

In line with the IDA’s vision of the design community working together for a world that is balanced, inclusive and sustainable, the IDA Congress will become a landmark event on the international design calendar, engaging industry leaders to shape regional and global agendas. By combining the membership strength and global outreach of all three IDA Partners, the 2013 IDA Congress will represent the collective voice of design worldwide. With the promise of international media coverage and great potential for long-term relationships with key sponsors, the new congress model holds numerous rewards for both the host city and all who participate.

The benefits of hosting an IDA Congress include profile building events that attract the leaders in global design, global media coverage, lucrative sponsor relationship building, investment in the host local area and a long-lasting relationship with the networks of the IDA Partner organisations. The IDA Congress will be distinguished from other design events as a catalyst for change, affecting global initiatives to improve sustainable conditions for human society and culture, achieving the IDA’s goal “to do together what cannot be done alone.”
