Call For Entries – International Furniture Design Fair (IFDA) 2011 Competition – "The Quebec Wood Export Bureau encourages your participation"

The IFDA (International Furniture Design Fair Asahikawa) has been held every three years since 1990. It is considered an important occasion for the furniture industry in Asahikawa to exchange ideas with designers from Japan as well as from other parts of the world.

The International Furniture Design Competition, the main event of the fair, serves as an indicator of the future of wooden furniture designs. In addition, it is the focus of public attention because of its introduction of cutting-edge designs.

We think that furniture is essential in our daily lives. At the same time, it represents our lifestyles. Thus, we believe, furniture should be well designed and equipped to deal with the ever-growing needs of consumers.
We also believe designs must keep up with the rapidly changing society and environment, and should express new relationships between human beings and their lifestyle, furniture, and the environment. We believe that designs should contribute to the creation of a better lifestyle and society.

Participation in this competition is not only for the purpose of giving and receiving awards, but also to introduce fresh designs into the furniture industry. Moreover, many works of the winners and finalists of past competitions have since been marketed around the world as “Asahikawa Furniture”. We are determined to make the utmost effort to commercialize more works from the competition.

Equally, since Asahikawa is a trading center of high quality lumber as well as a production center for fine materials, we seek designs that make excellent use of wood.

We hope to work together with you to produce furniture that will be treasured for many years by both users and manufacturers alike. We are looking forward to seeing your wonderful designs that will be loved and last for generations.
