The 3rd International Holcim Awards competition, offering a total of USD 2 million in prize money, is open to: sustainable building and civil engineering works; landscape, urban design and infrastructure projects; and materials, products and construction technologies. The Awards are an initiative of the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction.

Each competition cycle spans three years, from announcement to completion. The third Holcim Awards competition to promote sustainable construction is open until March 23, 2011.

  • All building projects are eligible for the competition if construction or commercial production was not started before July 1, 2010.
  • The Holcim Awards (main) category is open to participants for projects at an advanced stage of design with a high probability of execution.
  • The “Next Generation” category seeks visions and ideas at a conceptual level and is open to student projects created within university programs at final-year bachelor level or above.
  • The Holcim Awards competition comprises five regional competitions (in 2010/11) and the global Holcim Awards (2012). The regions are based on five geographic areas: North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa/Middle East and Asia Pacific. “Region” is determined by the location of the project.”
