FROM QUEBEC, A SHOWCASE OF QUEBEC CREATIVITY, AT WANTEDDESIGN, MAY 18-20″

NEW YORK, May 1, 2013 – This Spring, some of the most celebrated new designs from Quebec will migrate south for FROM QUEBEC, a featured exhibition at the international event WantedDesign to be held in New York City, May 18-20. Spearheaded by the Quebec Government Office in New York, FROM QUEBEC will present a jury-curated selection of more than 20 exclusive pieces by the province’s most creative minds in lighting, furniture and homewares.

Under the creative direction of industry veteran Josée Lepage, the 2013 exhibition follows on the success of its 2010 debut, when over 70 original Quebec designs were presented at Noho’s Relative Space. The FROM QUEBEC 2013 edition includes the latest award-winning designs by Olivier Desrochers and Loïc Bard; Tat Chao’s In Vitro collection of lighting and objects made from recycled glass tableware; the “babiche” or rawhide weaving of Samare’s Paddle bench as well as Lambert Rainville’s 3D-printed flower vase, which beautifully attest to the many ways Quebec designers draw on the oldest of craft tradition and the newest of design processes to create works with an original vocabulary and perspective.

Fusing European heritage with North American practicality, Quebec design is rooted in its cultural history yet contemporary in its outlook. “The innovative products in FROM QUEBEC remind us that our northern neighbor is a vital source for modern and contemporary design,” affirms Tony Wong of Brooklyn’s celebrated design store Abode New York.

Now in its third year, WantedDesign has quickly become one of New York Design Week’s most anticipated events, with leading international designers, workshops and lecture series transforming West Chelsea’s landmark Terminal Stores into a dynamic design hub.”
